Pavarotti 10th Anniversary | Arena, Verona

On September 6, 2017, on the day when the tenth anniversary of Pavarotti’s passing occurred, from the Verona Arena with a prime time event on Rai 1 and presented by Carlo Conti, the celebration organized by the Pavarotti Foundation and dedicated to Maestro took place “Pavarotti 10th Anniversary”.

The program of the event was focused on Maestro’s human and artistic history, narrated through the voices of the most dear and close friends of the great tenor.
First of all, the colleagues and friends Plácido Domingo and José Carreras, interpreters of one of the highest moments of Pavarotti career with “The Three Tenors”; then, the new generation of tenors to whom Pavarotti had always paid great attention. In fact, Francesco Meli and Vittorio Grigolo participated, young but already famous in the world.
On Arena stage performed also soprano Angela Gheorghiu and tenor Fabio Armiliato, two artists that Maestro Pavarotti deeply esteemed and invited to perform with him on the occasion of his 40-years career anniversary in Modena in 2001; and also Andrea Griminelli, an esteemed flutist and historical friend with whom Maestro performed all over the world.

There were also pop performances, to recall the memorable counterpoints to the opera career, beginning with Zucchero who in 1992 persuaded Maestro to sing alongside with him the song “Miserere”, and then Giorgia, Fiorella Mannoia, Nek, Massimo Ranieri , Eros Ramazzotti, the 2Cellos.
The Academy Award winner Nicola Piovani was also proud to be there to pay tribute to the great tenor. To celebrate the greatness of the Maestro, he wrote a piece that was presented for the first time ever that night.

Eugene Kohn, who shared many stages with Pavarotti, conducted the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Piano Festival of Brescia and Bergamo, also during the performances with the young opera singers supported by the Pavarotti Foundation: Ivan Ayon Rivas, Elisa Balbo, Alin Stoica, Matteo Mezzaro, Claudia Sasso, Vittoriana De Amicis.

Among the guests: the 1992 Nobel Peace Prize winner Rigoberta Menchu ​​Tum, Fazio Fazio, Alessandro del Piero, Ron Howard (satellite-linked from London).

As it had been for “Pavarotti and Friends” editions, proceeds from the evening were given to UNHCR in order to support the refugees’ projects.
