The title of the show echoed the famous final fugue from Giuseppe Verdi’s Falstaff (“Tutto nel mondo è burla… Ma ogni burla è l’uomo nel suo cervello” / “All the world is a joke… but man is the biggest fool of all”). In this musical project, the “joke” moved beyond a simple comic device to become a true philosophy: a clear-eyed, affectionate, and disenchanted look at human passions, weaknesses, and contradictions.

The program illustrated this interpretation through a selection of arias, performed both as solo pieces, duets, and ensembles. The musical narrative developed along classic themes of commedia dell’arte and opera—seduction, benevolent deception, wit, and misunderstanding — offering a listening journey that combined interpretative quality with entertainment.

Inspired by Verdi’s famous final fugue, the evening explored the comic register and irony in opera as a disenchanted lens for viewing human frailty. The lineup featured a journey through the most famous buffo arias by Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Offenbach, and Verdi, performed solo, in duet, and as an ensemble.

The stars of the evening were soprano Eva Maccaggi, tenor Giuseppe Infantino, and baritone Antimo Dell’Omo, accompanied by the chamber ensemble of the Luciano Pavarotti Foundation Orchestra. True to the mission promoted by Maestro Pavarotti, the initiative offered young talents a prominent stage, drawing a large turnout for the event.
