When he was very young, Pavarotti attended the rehearsals for a concert by his idol, Beniamino Gigli, to ask him how long he had studied to be able to sing like that. Gigli replied, “I’ve just finished!”, and Luciano always said, “I got the message!”.

Postgraduate Specialist Course in Opera Singing – 3rd Level

The two-year postgraduate course specialising in opera singing (3rd university cycle) is the only course of its kind in the world of advanced music training in Italy. It was created in 2024 as the result of a partnership between the Fondazione Luciano Pavarotti and the Fondazione Accademia di Musica, and in homage to the great tradition of the Canto Lirico Italiano, declared part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. The collaboration has been set up in order to offer young opera singers a new training opportunity, enabling them to develop their talent and hone their skills. The course is seen as a process that will help them to transition and mature, as they prepare for a career performing or teaching opera singing. The qualification is recognised by the MIUR (Minister of University and Research) with a value of 3 points in applications for public teaching positions. The teaching staff are all renowned singers in the field of opera, and there will also be contributions from guest artists from the most prestigious opera companies in the world.
