Tribute to Puccini at Festival delle Nazioni | Città di Castello, 2024
The 57th edition of the Festival delle Nazioni paid tribute to Portugal, for the first time host country of the event, promoting the search for the relationship that is woven between colonizing and colonized, with a continuous cross-reference – between what is rooted in the territory and what the ‘invaded’ territory returns and radiates over long distances.
A fitting tribute will be paid to the 50th anniversary of the “Carnation Revolution”, which took place on April 25, 1975. This momentous turning point for the Portuguese Republic was one of the main inspirations for the artistic choices, considering the strong impact that the event had on the political, social and cultural fabric of the country.
The programmatic manifesto of the Festival delle Nazioni unfolded along a path crossing latitudes and longitudes that were not only geographical, but touched the great periods of the history of Portugal’s music, culture and social history; a landscape drawn along four centuries that stretched from the Baroque to the present day, where performed renowned artists and prestigious ensembles.
In the setting of the Festival delle Nazioni, it couldn’t be missed a concert-tribute in memory of Maestro Pavarotti, still considered an ambassador of Italian music and art in the world, whose charisma and artistic talent were able to build bridges and virtuous exchanges between different cultures, in the music field but not only.
Protagonists of the concert, whose program paid tribute to Giacomo Puccini on the centenary of his death, were: Giulia Mazzola, Oronzo D’Urso, Matteo Torcaso, accompanied at the piano by Paolo Andreoli.
