Pavarotti Forever | Comacchio, 2024
The Luciano Pavarotti Foundation, in collaboration with Musicfilm association and thanks to the support of Comune di Comacchio, paid tribute to the memory of Maestro Pavarotti with a concert held in Comacchio, in the small square in front of the 17th-century Trepponti steps, on the evening of September 6.
The event paid tribute to Maestro by celebrating two of his great passions: Giacomo Puccini (whose death centenary fell in 2024) and young opera singers.
Luciano Pavarotti left an indelible mark with his extraordinary interpretations of Giacomo Puccini’s operas. His contribution to the Puccini repertoire remains a point of reference for generations of opera lovers.
Luciano Pavarotti made his debut with the Puccini opera that was always dearest to him, La Bohème, playing Rodolfo on April 29, 1961 in Reggio Emilia and bringing him back on stage 400 more times during his long career, the last of which was on the centenary of the first performance of Bohème, at the Teatro Regio di Torino in 1996.
A few years after his debut, Pavarotti stepped into the role of Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly in 1963 in Belfast.
The tenor was Turandot’s Calaf in 1977 in San Francisco and again, 20 years later, at the Metropolitan in New York.
Luciano Pavarotti, just as he debuted in the sign of Giacomo Puccini, also ended his career with another masterpiece by the composer from Lucca, playing Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca. The opera was staged at the New York Metropolitan in 2004, bringing the curtain down on the tenor’s glorious operatic career after 43 years.
Maestro spent his entire life working to bring opera to the people, making it as popular as possible while at the same time helping and supporting younger performers. In his vision, if opera was to be heard and loved, it was necessary to broaden the audience, certainly, but it was also necessary to cultivate new generations of young talent capable of interpreting it in the best possible way.
Bringing to life the most beautiful pages of Puccini’s repertoire were, therefore, the opera talents that the Pavarotti Foundation selects and supports, continuing Maestro’s worthy activity and working on the same path he traced.
The performers on stage were: Giulia Mazzola, Iolanda Massimo, Paolo Nevi, Ettore Chi Moon. The singers were accompanied by pianist Paolo Andreoli and by the Gocce d’Opera ensemble.
Our deepest gratitude to: Comune di Comacchio, Musicfilm Association and Made Eventi srl
