Rigoletto | Modena, 2022
The Luciano Pavarotti Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Modena and with the support of the Modena Foundation, organised an event dedicated to the memory of Maestro Luciano Pavarotti on the 15th anniversary of his death on 6 September 2007.
On this special occasion, the citizens of Modena were offered with a performance of Rigoletto, an opera particularly dear to Maestro Pavarotti, which he performed in many theatres around the world and also starred in the film adaptation directed by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle in the early 1980s.
Rigoletto, Giuseppe Verdi’s immortal opera from 1851, was performed on September 6 by the Senzaspine Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Matteo Parmeggiani and directed by Giovanni Dispenza.
The protagonists were: Scilla Cristiano (Gilda); Alessio Verna (Rigoletto); Giuseppe Infantino (Duke of Mantua); Alberto Bianchi Lanzoni (Sparafucile); Sabrina D’Amato (Maddalena); Masashi Tomosugi (Monterone); Anna Ussardi (Giovanna); Gabriele Barria (Marullo); Michele Pinto (Borsa); Maria Komarova (Countess of Ceprano); Max Medero (Count of Ceprano); Colsper Symphonic Lyric Choir.
This was a performance accessible to all, made possible thanks to the contribution of Antoniano Onlus, the Francesco Cavazza Institute for the Blind, the Gualandi Foundation for the Deaf, ENS – National Deaf Association, and FIADDA Emilia-Romagna, which helped adapt LIS to the language of the stage and provided surtitles.
A pop-inspired show, with black and white comics scrolling behind the protagonists like a graphic novel, designed by Andrea Niccolai and animated by Daniele Poli on the sets by Matteo Soltanto, with lighting by Pietro Sperduti and costumes by Monica Mulazzani.
A truly innovative feature of the use of surtitles in the opera is their integration into the comic strip and animated projection that accompanies the rhythmic pattern of the singing to facilitate readability.
